이번에 소개할 편곡 악보는 '슈베르트'의 연가곡 '겨울나그네'의 24곡중 마지막 곡인 '거리의 악사' 입니다.
한 청년이 추운 겨울 연인의 집 앞에서 이별을 고하고 방랑의 길을 떠나, 눈과 얼음으로 가득한 추운 들판을 헤매는 그는 고통과 절망 속에서 허덕이고, 까마귀·환상·도깨비불·백발과 같은 죽음에 대한 상념이 마음속에 자리하게 되지만, 마을 어귀에서 손풍금을 연주하는 늙은 악사에게 함께 여행을 떠나자고 하는 장면에서 이야기는 끝을 맺는 총 24개의 노래로 이루어진 ‘겨울 나그네’는 슈베르트의 대표적인 연가곡으로, 독일의 낭만 시인 빌헬름 뮐러의 시에 곡을 붙였는데 음울하고 어두운 분위기가 가득한 비극적인 노래 입니다.
이 노래를 작곡할 무렵 30세였던 슈베르트는 다가올 죽음을 예감한 듯 고독한 삶을 살고 있었고, 곡을 완성한 이듬해 가난과 병으로 세상을 떠나게 됩니다.
