Gabriel Estarellas

           Born in Palma de Mallorca, Gabriel Estarellas is considered the inheritor of the Spanish guitar school. With nearly 200 premières, 17 recordings, and several original compositions including the well-known "Diez Estudios de Virtuosismo" , Estarellas is considered a reference of this instrument. In 2004, he received the Trujamán Award , the most important national guitar recognition given for his whole career. He has won many international contests, such as "Viotti" in Italy , "Ramírez" in Santiago de Compostela, and "Francisco Tárrega" in Benicasim.

          He has performed in important international Festivals, such as Stresa, Paris , Santander , Pollensa, Alicante , Santiago de Compostela, Andrés Segovia in Madrid , Córdoba, Puerto Rico , Cuba , Texas Music Festival, and many others. As a solist, he has appeared with the English Chamber Orchestra, London Mozart Players, the Chamber Orchestra of Paris, National Orchestra of Spain, Spanish Radiotelevision Symphonic, Symphonic Orchestra of Madrid, Orchestra Comunidad de Madrid, Philharmonic of Minsk, National of Cuba, Symphonic Orchestra of Puerto Rico, Camerata of Houston, Orchestra Reina Sofía, Philharmonic of Galicia, Symphonic of Málaga, Murcia, Castilla y León, Baleares, Spanish Chamber Orchestra, and many others.

          He has been conducted by Enrique García Asensio, Odón Alonso, Leo Brouwer, Uros Lajovic, Christian Florea, Aldo Ceccato, José Collado, Arturo Tamayo, Leo Krämer, Víctor Pablo Pérez, Edmon Colomer, Antoni Ros Marbá, David Parry, Salvador Brotons, Manuel Galduf, José de Eusebio, etc.

          He has performed across Europe, Central America, Asia and USA .

          He has collaborations with most of the great Spanish composers of the 20 th century who have dedicated and composed music specifically for him. His most outstanding performances worldwide are Concierto de Benicasim by Leo Brouwer, Concierto del Agua by Tomás Marco, Concierto de Gibralfaro by Antón García Abril, Concierto Poético by Claudio Prieto, Música de Corte by Alexandre Tansman, Concierto de Bellver by Valentín Ruiz, Concierto Cervantino by Gabriel Fernández Álvez, Concertante by Xavier Benguerel.

          His recordings include works of many contemporany composers such as the integral for guitar and orchestra by Antón García Abril; integrals by Claudio Prieto, Tomás Marco, Angel Barrios, Bernardo Juliá and Gabriel Fernández Álvez; and music composed by Luis de Pablo, Cristóbal Halffter, Goffredo Petrasi, Miguel Alonso, Agustín Bertomeu, Carmelo A. Bernaola, José Luis Turina , Antón Larrauri, Salvador Brotons, etc.

          Gabriel Estarellas is Profesor of guitar at the High Conservatory of Music in Madrid .
