The Silver Swan / Orland Gibbons (1583~1625)

The silver swan, who living had no note,                 
When death approached unlocked her silent throat,

Leaning her breast against the reedy shore,             
Thus sung her first and last, and sung no more,
                                                                        
Farewell all joys,                                    
O death come close mine eyes                     
More geese than swans now live,                  
more fools than wise.             
                  
소리를 내지 못하는 은빛 백조
죽음의 때가 되어 잠기운 목을 열었네

갈대숲 물가에 기대어
처음이자 마지막인 노래를 하고    
더 이상은 소리 없었네

기쁨이여 안녕,
눈앞에 죽음이 다가오니
백조보다는 거위가 많듯,
현자보다는 어리석은 이가 많구나
